How to Fight Obesity - Taking steps now could be the difference between life and death.

How to fight obesity in your own life - It is no secret that obesity, diabetes, and heart disease are all on the rise. In fact, they have reached epidemic levels, There is good news though. Some very simple steps can help change that. These diseases are lifestyle diseases, which means that for the most part, we are doing it to ourselves. If you are looking to lose weight, there are 2 key areas that you must focus on.

 1 - Nutrition

 2 - Activity Level

If you have ever tries to go cold turkey on food, you know that it is almost impossible. The key is baby steps. Commit to making one small change each day, or each week. You will gradually turn your diet something that benefits your health, as opposed to what all of that junk food is doing.

IMPORTANT NOTE - When I am saying junk food, I am not just talking candy and snacks. I am talking about heavily processed (white) pastas, rice, and breads. I am talking about fried foods and foods loaded with preservatives. If you are a soda drinker, cutting soda out of your diet can have an amazing impact on your health, and is one of the keys in how to fight obesity.

Pick a goal for your first week. Commit to replacing 3 meals that you would normally eat with 3 healthier, nutrient loaded meals. Commit to replacing 1 soda a day with water. Each week, challenge yourself with another baby step. In time, they will add up.

How To Fight Obesity - Increase Your Activity Level

I remember having a conversation with a high school student about video games. He was telling me that he did not have time for homework, much less time to workout or be active. When I asked him how much time he spends playing video games, he responded 2 - 3 hours each day. We have become a society obsessed with watching TV, and other sedentary activities, and it is literally killing us.

While it would be great if everyone was working out 30-60 minutes a day, 5-6 days a week, that is not about to happen. I am a firm believer that something is better than nothing, especially in this case. If you want to know how to fight obesity, start by going for a walk. Each day, increase your distance a little. Eventually, turn it into a jog. Join a group that does some sort of physical activity. Just like you did with nutrition, take baby steps. Incorporate exercise into your lifestyle.
